Verdict: FramesDirect is a long-running online optical store (founded in 1996 by two optometrists, now part of EssilorLuxottica) built for people who want a specific designer frame – it lists 200+ brands including Ray-Ban, Oakley, Versace and Prada – with opticians on the phone and vision insurance applied to lenses. Shipping is free in the contiguous US. The catch is the return policy: 30 days, one return per item, and refunds don’t get a free return label.

Who should shop here

  • You already know the frame you want. Because FramesDirect stocks full brand ranges, it’s useful for finding a specific model and color – and the frame price match helps if you’ve seen it cheaper at an authorized US dealer.
  • You want expert help. Opticians can check your prescription, frame size and lens material, which matters most for progressive lenses and strong prescriptions.
  • You have insurance. FramesDirect says you can use insurance on lenses and a website promo on frames in the same order.

The fine print

  • Refund returns pay their own shipping. Prepaid labels are for exchanges (continental US). If a prepaid label is used and you then take a refund, $9 is deducted.
  • One return per item, and made-to-order Savile Row eyewear is final sale except for defects.
  • Lens errors: if lenses don’t match your prescription, report it within 30 days for a free remake or store credit; after 30 days, only replacement or repair.
  • Price match excludes lenses, contacts and some brands (Costa Del Mar, Lafont, Kaenon, Maui Jim, Zeal) and can’t be combined with promo codes.
